You will soon be able to use the government’s DigiLocker to protect your insurance policy documents. The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority IRDA has directed insurance companies to issue digital policy to be used for DigiLocker.
IRDA has instructed the insurance companies to provide the facility and usage of DigiLocker to the retail insured. At present, there is a facility to keep driving license, vehicle registration, voter ID card, PAN card, Aadhaar and many other government issued documents in DigiLocker.
Priya Deshmukh Gilbil, chief operating officer of Manipal Cigna Health Insurance, said the move would help the insured to keep the insurance documents safe and easy to use as and when required. Will also eliminate the need for physical documents. Significantly, this facility was introduced by the Central Government to reduce the use of physical documents.
Will help improve costs, complaints and service
Experts say that digitizing insurance documents digitally in DigiLocker will have many other benefits as well. This will help in reducing the cost of insurance companies, reducing the complaints received by the insured for missing or missing documents and improving the service.
Having documents in digital form will also help in curbing forgery. That is, if the fat is seen thicker, then the customer experience will also be better.
Pre-requisite facility in NIA
The National Insurance Repository (NIR) already has the facility to maintain Single E-Insurance Documents (EIAs) but does not provide the facility of keeping other documents in digital form. At the same time, DigiLocker is not yet offering the facility to keep all insurance policies in electronic form, but now this facility will be available. Apart from keeping NIR documents, it allows premium alerts, changing mobile numbers and account access to anyone.
